Holy Week EndsThis past weekend around 124,000 people visited the beaches of the port of San Felipe, of which over 47,000 were concentrated in the area of ​​the Malecon mainly between Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

These statistics cover the Easter holiday period when, according to data released by the Directorate of Municipal Public Security (DSPM), tourists entered the port in more than 27,000 vehicles.

Iribe Francisco Paniagua, secretary of the XXI Municipality of Mexicali, said that up until yesterday morning there has thankfully been a 'white balance' recorded, because during the surveillance operation of Semana Santa there were no major incidents.

He stressed that hotel occupancy continued to be 100% in San Felipe, while in tourist camps surrounding the town occupancy grew between Friday and Saturday with the arrival of vacationers.

Immediate Attention

The presence of relief units from the Corp of Heroic Firefighters in the area of ​​the dunes was cited, as well as various traffic control points located along the Mexicali/San Felipe highway.

Emergency transport was provided to a hospital for a child under 8 years of age who requiring medical attention, a tire fire was quenched in the street and injured were attended in the area of ​​the dunes.

Also, the DSPMs noted that over the past three days 123 people were brought before a judge for committing various offenses such as driving while intoxicated and participate in fights, to name a few.

In addition, Municipal Transit Police conducted a comprehensive dismissal of 181 offenses, which were mostly for not wearing a helmet and other motorcycle-related infractions.

Red Cross provided service to 40 visitors via ambulance and over 30 medical treatments were reported; the Rural Development Unit announced they collected about 134 tons of trash, including 36 tons retrieved from the Malecon.

Iribe Paniagua explained that the during the late hours of yesterday the various law enforcement bodies, rescue services and other agencies who participated in the security operation, remained deployed so that no mishaps occurred during the departure of the vacationers.
