Goals of the Lions Club in San Felipe
The newly established Lions Club San Felipe B.C. met
on Thursday, December 14 , 2006 at Los Arcos Restaurant
for its organizational meeting and selection of officers
as well as committee chairpersons.
The goal of the San Felipe Lions Club is to provide
humanitarian assistance to the people of San Felipe
through fund raising activities as well as ongoing collection
of food, blankets, eyeglasses, baby supplies and other
items as needs are identified.
Lions Club dignitaries from Mexicali, El Centro and
Heber were at the meeting to provide information, advice
and support to members and guests in attendance.
Gary Dilley of San Felipe Disposal, who was the driving
force in organizing the local club, was elected president.
Cliff White of Los Arcos Restaurant was named Vice President
and Elayne Caldwell and Robin Kissee were chosen as
secretary and treasurer, respectively.
Elected to chair the primary committees were Tom O’Neill,
Projects Committee, Raphael Navarro and Bob Lux, co-chair
of the Membership Committee, and Horacio Aleman, Debbie
Lux, Lee Martin and Sheri Pollack were named Fund Raising
chairpersons.
Dilley announced that the Governor of Lions Club International
of Mexico will be in San Felipe on January 26th to charter
the new club and its members at an installation ceremony.
The group plans to sponsor a poker walk in town, a poker
run, golf tournament and other events in the coming
year in order to raise funds for charitable and educational
programs in San Felipe. The Club has two programs underway:
The Flying Samaritans, a project designed to provide
medical and surgical services by physicians, will fly
into a town and work with local doctors and hospitals.
An eye surgeon will be in San Felipe February 15th through
18th. Anyone who needs help with eye-related problems
should contact Gary Dilley at 044 686 212-3599 or another
officer of Lions for possible help.
The El Dorado Intern Program will provide summer internships
to high school students who are interested in working
in construction and related industries so they will
be equipped to enter the work force upon graduation.
Residents of San Felipe are encouraged to join the Lions
Club to contribute to the community and have a lot of
fun doing so. If you want to make a difference and improve
the lives of local children, elderly, as well as others
who are unable to provide for themselves, please contact
Bob Lux at 044 686 212-8472 and/or attend the next general
meeting on January 11, 2007 at 6 p.m. at Fandango Sports
Bar on Av. Mar de Cortez, next to People’s Gallery
and The Net.
