Tourists to Enjoy a New Malecón by Easter

This coming Samana Santa, tourists and residents will enjoy a newly remodeled more beautiful Malecón thanks to the work carried out by the Government, which is about to conclude. The project investment totals around of ten million pesos and will be unveiled by Carlos Flores Vasquez, Secretary of Infrastructure and Urban Development of the State (SIDUE), who explained that these resources come from the Ministry of tourism.

Malecon Sidewalk

The executive of SIDUE stressed that the goal is for the work to be completed by March 31, when it will be "... ready to be used by those who decide to visit San Felipe. The new infrastructure will help promote the beauty of the port and continue to drive San Felipe's development...".

He explained that the work consisted in the reconstruction of the sidewalk with accessibility for people with disabilities, a bicycle path, benches, planters and new road signage, as well as underground facilities and preparation of water and sewer connections.

Refurbishing the Malecon

The rebuilt seating platforms will need no paint. Color was added in the casting process. There will be more pedestrian space and ample landscaping so people can enjoy the Malecón to the maximum. Carlos Flores added there is a project to expand the Avenida Chetumal, increasing the width of the road and parking spaces. However these works will be carried out after the holiday period, for the convenience of residents and tourists.

Finally, Carlos Flores said that State Governor Jose Guadalupe Osuna Millan wished to further develop San Felipe, and would continue with efforts at the federal level to obtain resources aimed at a second stage of remodeling the Malecón this year.
