Council Meeting for Public Works ProjectsYesterday morning the Council of Mexicali reviewed the presentation of the commission of Public Works and Services of Mexicali regarding the ratifiication of contractors for public works projects for the remainder of 2015.

The presentation, approved unanimously by mayor Jaime Diaz Ochoa and aldermen, seeks to review various companies bidding for the investment of 600 million pesos in public works this year.

Diaz Ochoa said that among the companies interested in acquiring tenders is Racota Group, despite being under investigation by Trustee on the issue of "infalted" invoices.

The expected investment in public works for the next period is 600 million pesos, resources acquired from the three levels of government, he said, which will go to San Felipe and Mexicali Valley.

The vote for the approval of Report 07/15 took place amid various objections made by the council and by César Valerio Alicia Martinez, who accused the City Council of lack of transparency in this approval.

Valerio said that so far there has been no accurate information on the work projects planned nor the companies nterested in tending bids.

Something similar happened last year, when information was not forthcoming on investments in public works, he said, a situation which in turn caused various problems, such as the City Council being involved with alliances with companies, as happened with the Racota case.

In this regard, Diaz Ochoa responded that more than 30 companies were contesting for tenders, as well as information of public works in question, which depended on the delivery of the budget.

He promised that by next June 20 the Director of Public Works COPLADEM would be contacted and presented the 2015 work plan for the initiative report adopted yesterday at the 15th extraordinary session of council.

When questioned about the progress of the investigations in relation to the company Racota's inflated bills, he said there was an oversight and trusteeship which were following the issue.
